Shiseido Invents AI "Nose" That Predicts Fragrance Trends 5 Years in Advance

Tokyo, Japan – Cosmetics giant Shiseido has developed Olfactory Horizon, an AI system analyzing 10 million global scent reviews, social media trends, and climate data to forecast future fragrance preferences. The tool recently predicted a 2030 surge in "urban wilderness" scents (e.g., concrete moss, rain on asphalt) and a decline in traditional florals. "This isn’t just about creating smells—it’s about solving sensory needs," said Shiseido’s Chief Digital Officer, Hiroshi Kagawa. The company plans to license the tech to smaller brands, aiming to cut R&D time from 3 years to 6 months.
